Profile, joint, or plate isn't snug, cannot tighten the bolts further

Double-check that you are using the correct bolt & washer combo:
Especially for chair mounts, it is common for M8x35 bolts to be used with the universal connectors, instead of the required M8x30.
This results in the bolts bottoming out in the slots.

Side kits with 40x40 elbow joints can face a similar issue, should the M8x16 and M8x18 cylinder head screws get mixed up.
The M8x18 cylinder head is intended to mount the adapter plate, along with a washer and locknut.
If used for the joint -> profile slot connection instead, it will bottom out.
